Green Day, Dos!

Green Day, Dos!

Not only a very successful punk band but one of the most successful bands in the world. They keep putting out the albums and they keep selling. Most of the time the albums are very good like Nimrod in 97 and American Idiot in 04. This is there tenth album and also the second of a triple album release schedule.
The album is classic Greed Day with big rhythm guitars and shout along vocals. But it just seems a bit flat. Not so much rocking out but settling down. Nothing wrong with that as this band have done the slower music and done it well.
"Lazy Bones" is the first track that catches my attention. A great little song with a catch tune. It kind of reminds me of there old stuff. And that could be the problem as they have done some great albums. I remember when Insomniac came out in 95 and some fans were not impressed but it was a good album where this one is struggling.
"Wild One" kicks in with that Billie Joe classic sound but then seems to fissile out. The guitar is playing slower but nothing really fills in the song.
Single "Stray Heart" hits the right notes, catchy and fun. But the rest of the album seem to just go by too easily and another few listens it still is the same.
Not a bad album but not that amazing as well. I do respect the triple album idea but it has to be really good to make the casual fan buy all three and I am not sure upon buying number two that I would get the other ones.
The last track "Amy" is a nice end as it is a tribute to Amy Winehouse. Much like all music fans I miss Amy as well but green day seem to miss something here.

Neil Young & Crazy Horse, Psychedelic Pill

Welcome to my first post of my new blog page. It is very simple a review blog for new albums. Much of the music here will have been bought by me.

There will be no links to free illegal copies on the blog. I will give as much info as I can from a link to the band website or to Amazon (I will use the 'other' seller listing to give an option).

It will be a real mix of music but mostly guitar driven bands and just about anything that I feel deserves a review.

Each album will be given a review out of ten. Easy 1=crap and 10=amazing. Unlike many other magazines and publications I will very rarely give a 1 or 10 as they are very rare indeed. I will not review mates bands or re releases.

The reviews may at times be a little basic or a little more involved this all depends on the time I have to write.

I have another music blog in reviewing old classic albums that were missed and need a listen.

Feel free to add me on twitter @29xthefun

And all I can say is enjoy. And spend some money on great music.

Neil Young & Crazy Horse, Psychedelic Pill

Classic Neil Young and Crazy Horse. You may have seen this in some shops as it is pretty good. A little change of direction from that last few albums. More of a classic southern feel to it bit like Lynyrd Skynyrd but on some really good drugs.

This is a 2 CD set and track one is a whopping 27 minutes. But that is the good news. The band are playing and sounding great and Neil is playing lead guitar and chucking out feedback and whammy bar riffs a plenty. But all of it feels great and you get into the music so well. The lyrics are basic and repetitive just the sort of music to get you singing along.

Much of the album is set firmly in the fuzzy folk rock of the 60s but it never sounds too old or even boring. The guitar playing is fantastic and always keeps you interested. This is one of those albums that has been done in the studio after jamming for weeks. The highlights are plenty on this 90 minute album. "Ramada Inn" on CD1 and "Walk Like a Giant" are fantastic and the two alone could have made up one great album. Add in the great first track "Driftin' Back".

There are times music like this can be boring and it if a fine line at times as well. This is not at all boring or even commercial. It is a music lovers album as double albums never seem to be that big in the casual music listeners taste. There are plenty of bands who cater for the AOR side of music taste and I feel this is not for them and thankfully so. Two discs of sheer bliss go buy it now.
